Massive Government Shake-Up: Supreme Court Lets Trump Slash 100,000 Federal Jobs!
Washington D.C., July 9, 2025 — In a significant development, the U.S. Supreme Court has given the green light to former President Donald Trump’s controversial executive order that aims to implement sweeping federal job cuts across various government agencies. The decision lifts a previous injunction that had blocked the implementation of the order, allowing the administration to move forward with its downsizing plans while legal challenges continue in the lower courts.
The unsigned 6–3 ruling from the conservative-majority bench stated that the federal government is “likely to succeed” in defending the constitutionality of the executive directive. While the court emphasized that it was not passing judgment on the legality of each agency’s restructuring plan, it permitted the overarching executive authority to proceed. The decision is expected to impact tens of thousands of federal employees, potentially leading to massive layoffs and disruption of public services.
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson issued a strong dissent, warning that the ruling effectively lets a “wrecking ball” loose on the federal workforce. She argued that the move undermines Congress’s legislative authority and warned of dire consequences if such executive overreach goes unchecked. Justice Sonia Sotomayor, although concurring with the majority on procedural grounds, cautioned that the court was not addressing the substantive implications of agency-level decisions, which could still be subject to future judicial review.
The executive order, originally signed by Trump earlier this year, is part of a broader agenda to reduce the size of the federal government. It targets agencies such as the Departments of Agriculture, Veterans Affairs, and Occupational Safety and Health, among others. Critics argue that these cuts could seriously weaken essential government functions and threaten the stability of key services relied upon by millions of Americans.
While the Supreme Court’s decision marks a victory for Trump’s vision of a leaner federal bureaucracy, the legal battle is far from over. The case will continue in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, where arguments on the constitutional validity of the executive order will be fully examined. Until then, the federal workforce braces for what could be one of the most dramatic restructuring efforts in recent U.S. history.
