WTC Points Table: Updated Points Table of World Test Championship on July 6 after India Win at Edgbaston
Edgbaston | July 6, 2025 — Team India’s emphatic victory over England in the second Test at Edgbaston has not only leveled the five-match series 1-1, but also reshaped the dynamics of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25 points table. With this win, India has surged up the rankings, boosting their percentage points and strengthening their push for a place in the WTC Final at Lord’s next year.
India’s Position After Edgbaston Test
India earned 12 WTC points for their win at Edgbaston, taking their overall tally to 42 points from 6 matches, with 3 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw. More crucially, their Points Percentage (PCT) — the key metric in WTC standings — has climbed to 58.33%, moving them to second place, just behind Australia.
Updated WTC 2023–25 Standings (as of July 6, 2025):

Impact of India’s Win
India’s win is vital in the context of the championship. After losing the opening Test at Lord’s, the victory at Edgbaston not only restored balance in the series but gave India much-needed momentum going into the third Test at Headingley.
Skipper Rohit Sharma praised the team’s all-round performance and emphasized the importance of consistency. “Every match in the WTC counts. We’re aware of the points system, and we’re focused on improving that percentage,” he said in the post-match conference.
England Slip Further
For England, the loss is a blow to their WTC campaign. With only 33.33% PCT after 9 matches, their chances of making the final are now extremely slim. They will need to win most of their remaining Tests and hope other results go in their favor.
What Lies Ahead
India still has three Tests to play in this series, offering 36 more WTC points. With series against New Zealand and Bangladesh lined up later in the cycle, the team has a real opportunity to finish in the top two and book a place in the 2025 WTC Final.
