Uttarakhand Weather Alert: Orange Alert for Dehradun, Cloudbursts in Chamoli & Pithoragarh
Heavy Rain Alert in Uttarakhand: Orange Alert for Dehradun, SDRF Teams on High Alert
Dehradun, July 10, 2025: The Uttarakhand Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for Dehradun and Yellow Alert for districts like Bageshwar, Nainital, and Rudraprayag for the next 24 hours. The forecast indicates heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple regions of the state in the coming days.
Amid intense monsoon activity, rivers such as the Alaknanda and Saryu are flowing above danger levels, causing concerns in hilly and remote areas. In the border areas of Dehradun, continuous rainfall has led to swelling of rivers and increasing risk of landslides.
Recently, cloudbursts were reported in Mok village in Chamoli and parts of Pithoragarh, triggering panic among residents. Fortunately, there have been no casualties, but several villages have been cut off due to damaged roads and washed-away paths.
Rescue and relief operations are in full swing. The administration is working swiftly to restore road connectivity and supply essential relief materials to the affected regions. Notably, in Chamoli, villagers used social media to alert authorities, leading to timely rescue efforts that saved many lives — a reminder of how digital platforms can be vital in emergencies.
To manage the crisis, SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) has deployed teams at 42 sensitive locations. According to the SDRF Commandant, each team comprises seven members including paramedics, and the deployment is focused on high-risk flood-prone and landslide-sensitive zones.
Authorities have urged residents to stay away from overflowing rivers and remain alert. The Met department continues to monitor weather patterns closely and will update advisories as the situation evolves.
