Kolkata Gang Rape: Medical Report Confirms Brutal Assault
Kolkata, June 27 – The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has officially disassociated itself from a student leader who has been arrested in connection with a shocking gang-rape case at a law college in Kolkata. The ruling party in West Bengal issued a strong statement denying any links with the accused and confirmed that he is not affiliated with its student wing.
Case Details
The incident reportedly occurred on the premises of a prominent law college in the city. A female student has accused multiple individuals, including the student leader in question, of sexual assault. Following her complaint, Kolkata Police launched an investigation and have since arrested three suspects.
According to police sources, the accused were produced in court and remanded to police custody until July 1 for further interrogation and evidence collection.
TMC Responds Swiftly
Amid growing outrage and political pressure, the TMC leadership clarified that the accused does not hold any official position in its student organisation. A senior party spokesperson said,
“The individual in question is not associated with the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad. We do not support or shelter those involved in criminal activity. The law will take its own course.”
Political Fallout
The case has sparked a political storm in West Bengal. Opposition parties, including the BJP and Congress, have sharply criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led government, alleging a failure in maintaining law and order and demanding a high-level probe into the incident.
BJP state leaders have gone a step further, calling for the Chief Minister’s resignation, citing a rising trend of crimes against women in the state.
NCW Steps In
Taking cognizance of the case, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has issued a notice to the West Bengal police, demanding a detailed report. The commission has also expressed concern over safety protocols at educational institutions in the state.
College Administration Under Fire
The college authorities have not released an official statement so far. However, sources indicate that internal discussions are underway regarding possible disciplinary action and review of campus security measures.
Public Reaction
The case has triggered protests by student groups and women’s rights activists, who are demanding justice for the survivor and stricter policies to ensure campus safety.
