Lando Norris Clinches Victory at Austrian Grand Prix, Narrows Championship Gap
Spielberg, Austria – June 29, 2025
In a thrilling display of pace and precision, Lando Norris stormed to victory at the Austrian Grand Prix, leading a McLaren 1-2 finish ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri and significantly closing the gap in the drivers’ championship.
Starting from second on the grid, Norris executed a flawless race at the Red Bull Ring, overtaking pole-sitter Max Verstappen during the first stint and never looking back. The British driver maintained consistent pace throughout the 71-lap contest, managing tire wear perfectly to secure his third win of the 2025 season.
“This is what we’ve been working toward,” said a jubilant Norris post-race. “A perfect weekend for the team — Oscar right behind me, great strategy, and the car felt amazing. We’re right in this title fight now.”
Oscar Piastri delivered an equally impressive performance, defending his position from late pressure by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who settled for third after a late charge. Piastri’s second-place finish marks his fifth podium of the season and reinforces McLaren’s growing threat to Red Bull and Ferrari in the constructors’ standings.
Championship leader Max Verstappen endured a frustrating race, finishing fourth after a sluggish pit stop and struggling with tire degradation. The home favorite received a mixed reception from the Austrian crowd, many of whom had hoped to see a Red Bull victory.
With the result, Norris now sits just 19 points behind Verstappen in the standings, injecting new excitement into the title battle as the season approaches its halfway mark.
