Kolkata Gang Rape Case: Medical Examination Confirms ‘Forceful Penetration, Assault Marks on Neck’
KOLKATA (Khabridose.com) – In a significant development in the shocking Kolkata gang rape case, medical examination reports have corroborated the victim’s allegations, confirming “forceful penetration, bite marks, and nail scratches” on her body, along with “assault marks on and around her neck.” This crucial evidence strengthens the case against the three accused, who have been remanded to police custody.
The incident, involving a 24-year-old first-year law student, reportedly occurred on the evening of June 25th inside the South Calcutta Law College premises. According to the victim’s complaint, she was allegedly lured into a room within the college and subjected to a brutal assault lasting several hours, from approximately 7:30 PM to 10:50 PM.
Police have swiftly arrested all three individuals named in the complaint: Monojit Mishra (31), an alumnus and reportedly a contractual staff member of the college; Zaib Ahmed (19), a first-year student; and Pramit Mukherjee (20), a second-year student. Mishra is believed to be the prime accused, with the other two allegedly standing guard or assisting during the assault.
The victim’s harrowing account includes being hit with a hockey stick, pleading for an inhaler during a panic attack, and being threatened with the release of video recordings of the assault if she reported the incident. The police have seized the mobile phones of the accused for forensic analysis to ascertain if any such footage exists.
The case has ignited widespread outrage and condemnation, bringing back grim memories of a similar incident last year at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Political leaders have also weighed in, with some demanding swift justice and stricter laws, while others have engaged in political bickering over the affiliations of the accused.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of the case, demanding a detailed and time-bound investigation report from the Kolkata Police within three days. The incident underscores pressing concerns regarding women’s safety within educational institutions and the need for robust mechanisms to prevent and address such heinous crimes. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities committed to ensuring justice for the victim.
