“Kannappa” Storms Box Office with Impressive Day 1 Collection, Telugu Version Leads the Charge
Hyderabad, [June 28, 2025]: Vishnu Manchu’s highly anticipated mythological epic, “Kannappa,” has made a strong opening at the box office, raking in an estimated ₹9 crore across all languages in India on its first day. Released on Friday, June 27, the film, boasting a stellar ensemble cast including special appearances by Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Mohanlal, has delivered the biggest opening of Vishnu Manchu’s career.
The devotional drama saw its most significant success in the Telugu-speaking regions, where it recorded an impressive overall occupancy of 55.89%. Morning shows kicked off with a solid 50.55% occupancy, which steadily climbed to a remarkable 69.87% for night screenings, indicating positive word-of-mouth. Hyderabad and Bengaluru contributed significantly to the Telugu collection, showcasing strong audience turnout.
While the Telugu version dominated, other language releases also contributed to the pan-India numbers. The Tamil version recorded a modest 16.45% occupancy, with Chennai leading the viewership. The Hindi belt saw a slower start at 4.83% in the morning, but picked up pace to reach 24.99% during night shows. Karnataka and Kerala reported 13.81% and 7.20% occupancy for their respective Kannada and Malayalam versions.
Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, “Kannappa” delves into the legendary tale of an atheist hunter’s profound transformation into a devout follower of Lord Shiva. Vishnu Manchu’s portrayal of the titular character has garnered particular attention, with many critics and fans praising his intense and convincing performance, especially in the emotionally charged climax. The final 40 minutes of the film are being widely lauded as “spectacular” and a “treat for Shiva bhakts.”
Despite receiving mixed critical reviews regarding pacing and some VFX inconsistencies, the film’s emotionally resonant core and grand scale appear to be striking a chord with audiences seeking culturally rooted storytelling. The notable cameos by industry stalwarts like Prabhas as the fierce Rudra and Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva have undoubtedly added to the film’s appeal and drawing power.
Produced on a reported budget of around ₹200 crore, “Kannappa” aims to redefine mythological cinema with its blend of devotion, action, and visually stunning sequences. As the film heads into its first weekend, trade analysts will be closely watching its performance, especially with competition from other releases. However, the strong Day 1 figures suggest that “Kannappa” has successfully captivated its target audience and is poised for a significant run at the box office.
