India Beat England in 2nd Test for Historic Win at Edgbaston, Level Series 1-1
Edgbaston, Birmingham | July 5, 2025 — Team India scripted a remarkable comeback by defeating England in the second Test match at Edgbaston, leveling the five-match series 1-1. With this victory, India not only avenged their first Test defeat but also registered a historic win at a venue traditionally dominated by the hosts.
Chasing a target of 274 runs, India showcased grit and class with the bat, with Shubman Gill (96) and Rishabh Pant (87)* steering the team through a tense fourth-innings chase. Pant, in particular, played a mature and match-winning knock, silencing critics after a lean patch.
Earlier, India’s bowling unit, led by Jasprit Bumrah (4/42) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/56), dismantled England’s batting in the second innings, bundling them out for just 189 runs on Day 3. England had a slender lead after the first innings, but the visitors’ fightback with both bat and ball turned the tide.
England’s Joe Root and Ben Stokes put up resistance, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Indian charge. The Indian team was particularly sharp in the field, with two key run-outs that shifted momentum.
This win marks India’s second-ever Test win at Edgbaston, their last victory at the ground coming in 2007. With the series now tied at 1-1, both sides will head to the third Test at Headingley with renewed intensity.
