100 Crore Religious Conversion Racket Busted in Uttar Pradesh: Changur Baba on ATS Remand
Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh | July 10, 2025 – In a major breakthrough, the Uttar Pradesh ATS has arrested Changur Baba (alias Jalaluddin) and his partner Neetu alias Nasreen, key accused in a ₹100 crore illegal religious conversion racket. Both have been sent on 7-day ATS remand for further investigation into the massive inter-state operation.
The arrests came after a massive operation in Balrampur, where the duo’s illegal religious conversion center was demolished. Authorities claim the gang had been active for nearly 15 years, operating under the radar while converting thousands through manipulation, fraud, and false promises.
Religious Conversion in Uttar Pradesh: A 15-Year-Old Operation
According to UP ADG (Law & Order) Amitabh Yash, the gang had been quietly carrying out large-scale forced religious conversions for over a decade. Despite this, no action was taken by police or intelligence agencies during that time.
Changur Baba, once a small amulet seller, is now accused of building crores worth of illegal property and managing 40+ bank accounts with over ₹106 crore of unaccounted black money.
How the Conversion Racket Worked
The gang allegedly targeted poor laborers, widows, and underprivileged citizens, luring them with fake promises of marriage, jobs, or financial support. Victims were coerced into converting, making this not only a religious issue, but also a social exploitation case.
One victim stated, “They manipulated me emotionally and financially. I’m relieved the mastermind has finally been caught.”
Properties Demolished, Money Trail Under Probe
As part of the crackdown, the ATS demolished Changur Baba’s lavish mansion in Balrampur. Authorities are now tracking the money trail, investigating illegal property acquisition, and identifying network connections across states.
ATS officials have confirmed they will take action to seize illegal assets, investigate funding sources, and determine the full scale of the conversion network.
Administrative Failure and Public Outrage
The case has sparked massive outrage, especially as locals revealed illegal land grabs by Changur’s associate Mohammad Ahmad Khan, who allegedly encroached on government land. Villagers have denied Ahmad’s claims of ancestral ownership, revealing it as public space used for decades.
Criticism is mounting against state officials and local police, who failed to act despite clear signs of wrongdoing. Allegations of bribery and administrative inaction are now being raised.
